This position is funded from the Commonwealth's annual operating budget.Duties:
Works under the supervision of the Support Branch Coordinator to assure the successful daily operation of the Support Branch. Receives, stores, and distributes equipment and supplies received in the support branch. Organizes and inventories equipment, in support of the MA Firefighting Academy training programs, for delivery to training programs throughout the Commonwealth. Works with others to maintain equipment in working order for use in training.
Detailed Duties:
1. Receives, stores, and issues supplies and equipment.
2. Complies records of deliveries and returns of equipment used on and off site for training.
3. Examines incoming goods and existing equipment and gear to verify quality, quantity, and condition of goods for conformance to specifications and agency requirements.
4. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment purchased by DFS and documents location, condition, repairs, age and other information on equipment and gear in accordance with established procedures.
5. Maintains records and logs of items received, issued, and shipped including description of articles, type and other identifying information in accordance with established procedures.
6. Participates in the repair and upkeep of equipment used by the DFS Training Division.
7. Participates in the loading and unloading of trucks for delivery of training equipment.
8. Performs related duties such as moving equipment to other locations using powered and hand equipment, maintaining the cleanliness of the training vehicles, maintaining the general appearance of the support branch area, and other related duties are requested by the Support Branch Coordinator.
9. Participates in the process of ordering needed equipment and supplies.
10. Initiates purchase requests for needed supplies in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part- time, experience in storekeeping work in a storeroom, stockroom or warehouse, the major duties of which included receiving, storing and issuing supplies and equipment.

Preferred
Qualifications:
1. Knowledge and understanding of principals and methods for moving goods and equipment and the relative costs and benefits.
2. Experience with and understanding of machines and equipment used in the Fire Service, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
3. Knowledge of clerical procedures and systems such as work processing, spreadsheet applications, designing forms, and other office type procedures.
4. Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes and/or symbols.
5. Ability to successfully assemble items and equipment form written directions and pictures.
6. Ability to gather information by examining records, documents, personnel observations.
7. Knowledge of the proper storage methods such as palletizing, binning, racking, etc.
8. Knowledge of the standard methods and techniques for handling and storing hazardous products and fragile, perishable, or dated products and goods.
9. Knowledge of the principles and methods of inventory control of supplies and equipment, and other techniques used in storekeeping.
10. Skill in the use of small hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.
License and/Or Certification Requirements:
1. Valid MA Driver's License.
Comments:
This is a Civil Service position.
This is a full-time position with work hours 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Salary published reflects union rates as of January 11, 2015. Salary placement is determined by years of experience and education directly related to the position and the Human Resources Division recruiting guidelines. Generally, a substantial number of years experience is required to attain the higher end of the salary range.
