Maintenance Foreman

The Department of Fire Services seeks to fill the position of Maintenance Foreman, which is responsible to supervise and perform maintenance and repairs of the Department of Fire Services' buildings, grounds and related structures. The position is primarily located in Stow, MA, with occasional travel to support the DFS Springfield campus. Possession of a valid drivers license is required.
Specific duties include:
Oversees and coordinates the work of employees and vendors engaged in the upkeep, maintenance and repair of grounds, training props, buildings and related structures including utility systems, security and alarm systems, lighting, drainage systems, hydrants, fencing, and parking lots.
Supervise all aspects of grounds maintenance including but not limited to mowing, trimming, and pruning.
Serves as the lead metal worker/welder responsible to supervise and fabricate miscellaneous metal products, props, parts and tools, as well as repair and maintain equipment by cutting, soldering, and brazing.
Responsible for determining the need for routine repairs or maintenance.
Supervises and performs upkeep, maintenance and repair work such as painting, masonry, woodwork, welding, plumbing, electrical, snow & ice removal, pavement striping & sealing, and landscaping.
Inspects grounds, buildings, related structures and/or building utility systems to determine upkeep needs and estimate the cost of materials required for maintenance, repair or replacement of parts; notes hazardous conditions; and establishes work priorities based on safety requirements and the operational needs of the facility.
Determines the need for and acquires supplies, materials and equipment required to perform assigned work. Supervises and performs preventative maintenance of all building and grounds related equipment as required by manufacturer recommendations and warranties.
Maintains records and prepares reports to provide information to superiors concerning work progress, work completed, cost, problems encountered, equipment and materials used, employees' time and attendance and to make recommendations concerning assigned activities.
Schedules vendor services and maintains all records of services performed, including signing vendors in/out and validating the accuracy of vendor work orders. Responsible to ensure all maintenance vendors are appropriately escorted and supervised, ensuring the work is properly performed and facility access is granted in a manner that protects the safety of all staff and visitors.
Inspects work in progress and completed work to verify adherence or compliance to specifications and standards and to prepare reports to superiors concerning work activities. Oversees the janitorial services vendor, including conducting quality control inspections to ensure that cleanliness is properly maintained.
Performs various manual labor tasks that may require some specialized skills to assist in the work of trade workers and craft people such as carpenters, plumbers, masonry, welding, brazing, and soldering.
Performs various manual labor tasks to assist in the work of laborers such as shoveling, snow removal from roofs, parking lots and roadways, snow blowing, spreading salt and sand on pedestrian walkways, roadways and parking lots, moving furniture, pruning and planting, mowing lawns, and digging.
Operates light and heavy equipment and hand tools. May be required to work out doors in all types of weather, work varied shifts, weekends, holidays or nights and is subject to a 24-hour on-call status.
Performs other related duties such as reading, interpreting and preparing drawings and sketches; preparing information and specifications for contractual work; and assisting in the development of work unit's budget.
This is a full-time position with work hours: 8:00 a.m. ? 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Salary placement is determined by years of experience and education directly related to the position and the Human Resource Division's and Bargaining Unit's recruiting guidelines. Generally a substantial number of years experience is necessary to attain the higher end of the salary range.

Preferred Qualifications:
10 years experience in building maintenance
5 years experience supervising a large, complex building campus
Ability to solder copper tubing with either 95-5 or silver solder.
Completion of NFPA or Gould Construction Institute Hot Works Class
Strong knowledge of landscape maintenance
Commercial chemical applicator license a plus
Hoisting License a plus
Sheet metal license a plus
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in building maintenance, repair and/or construction or in a building construction trade, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
